Misfiring

Just bought a 81 1.1 golf an it's got a shocking misfire. It won't rev over 3500/4000rpm and struggles to accelerate. It's only done 36k so hopefully shouldn't be too major. Anyone hot any ideas? Cheers

Try condenser & Contacts, start with the cheapest bits and work your way up the list

Distributor cap
rotor arm
plugs
leads
carb jets
piston rings

take your pick (i've replaced all of what you see there, mine's still knackered )
