K&N bolt-on with Weber.
It has made a difference, but I'm half looking at a bolt-on alternative. However, the room between the carb and the bonnet looks awfully tight, and i know that the bolt on filter is taller than the standard air box.
Also, if i put a bolt on filter onto the carb, what can i do with the warm/cold air feed actuator? or do i just hope the car runs ok

I had a K&N bolt on filter on my 1.1 with weber carb and the filter used to catch the bonnet - all I did was trim down the rubber boot on the bottom of the filter which fits onto the carb, only about 5mm so that the jubilee clip could still fit on, worked a treat and gave about a cm of clerance between the filter and bonnet.
As for carb icing, I did used to have a bit of trouble on cold mornings (daily driver) but as long as the car is thoroughly warmed up i shouldn't see there being a problem.
The bolt on make a lovely bit of induction raw, but make sure the timing is set after you've put it on otherwise it'l make it run like a bag of bolts.
good luck!

It wouldn't give much better flow that the K&N ring filter in the stock airbox anyway
