Increase compression ratio on 1.1 FA engine?

I have been thinking about doing a EFI/E85 conversion to my Golf mk1 with the 1.1 liter FA engine and see if i can make it the ultimate daily driver. Since the petrol prices here in sweden are getting really high, an E85 solution might be something i will look at. But to make the engine more efficient i think i need to increse the compression ratio from it's original 8.0 to maybe 10 if possible, like a more modern NA engine today.

I have yet to take one of these small block engines apart, so i don't know what it looks like in the combustion chambers. But i think i've read somewhere that the head is flat? Which rules out the possibility to surface it down to increase the ratio. But maybe it would be possible to surface down the block instead? Most of all i would like to put in some other pistons with higher compression but i have yet to find some that would do the trick. I don't even think there is any third party high comp pistons for this engine. :(

Any input on this i am thankful for. Maybe some pictures of the insides of a 1.1 as well so i know what it looks like before taking mine apart. :)
