Idling issues
It's a 1093cc with Solex (Manual Choke), the problem is it refuses to idle off the choke, even at operating temperature. Ran it round the block last night and was really lacking in power.. crawled to a halt and stalled in 1st gear at pretty much full throttle going uphill, had to give it a big run up in 2nd gear.
It does run relatively smoothly @ 1500 rpm using the throttle with the choke off, but dies around 1000 rpm when the throttle is released.. it started playing up over Christmas but I've only just had chance to look at it..
Anyway here's what we've tried (ran through some suggestions found in older posts);
-Ignition timing is more or less spot on (checked with strobe @1000 rpm).
-Dwell angle is ~50° (should be fine?)
-Fuel cut-off valve working (tested off the carb)
-Carb grounding wire in good condition.
-Carb mount is pretty much new, no splits that I can see (sealed with a bit of gasket sealant for good measure)
-Choke valve gap correct (I think!)
-Had the top of the carb off, checked float etc and cleaned it up a bit, although no blockages/dirt found.
-Inline filter also blockage free.
Main issue is that adjusting the mixture/idle speed screws seems to make practically no difference, even at extremes, so we can't dial it in.. Think i'm looking for an air leak tbh, does that sound right? Or is my carb just fubar?
If anyone's got any suggestions at all it'd be appreciated!
Cheers, and sorry for the huge post! :3

Exactly what I'm having problems with Tried everything. even got new mounts becuase the original DID have a split. that didn't change much really apart from lessend the 'lumpy' running.
about 2-3 cm out with the manual choke and it runs and beauty, up to temperature, spot on. soon as you drop it in, dies straight away :\. 1093 with solex carb also :\
ANYONE OUT THERE THAT HAS FIXED THIS BEFORE?!

I've been practically rewiring it to remove some bodge alarm job, remembered there was a "mystery" wire (previously burnt through ). It was on my to-do list but I didn't think it was important.
Anyway checked the ign live feed at the fuel cutoff solenoid thing and it had 0 volts! Hooked up the wire and got 12v at the solenoid on ignition.. guess what, it idles lovely off the choke now.
You guys in the same boat, test you're getting 12v to the fuel cutoff, On my car it was a black wire going to A15 @ the fuse box.. also test the solenoid off the carb too to see if it retracts properly.
brb, off to drive it

I'ma try that! I know the cable you mean. so far I've been going on the noise made by the solenoid.. without actually checking whether it functions fully.
either way, MOT at 2 oclock!! wish me luck

Side note, finally got it to idle lower than 1500 rpm.. forgot that we'd pulled the throttle cable really tight to try and get it to idle

:p STILL running on choke. STILL Charging issues. Left it there and went for a wander around town. came back and some complete DIV in ATS Tyres haverfordwest had not managed to start it.. (even when it was in a right mess when I picked it up about 7 months ago it started first time (first in at leat 8 years). the only time i'd wouldnt start was the time when i needed it to. and then he ran the battery out.
It's now in crowhill garage, Two 60+ year olds, what they dont know you could CRAYON on the back of a stamp. so i'm now awaiting an update of the carb setup, charging, etc etc etc.
ahh well.
