Idle problems/carb overhaul.

Hi all, finally got me engine running(83 1.1 formel).
It sounds sweet enough not missing or rattling but will not idle,
sounds like not enough fuel getting in,what do i need to know
about taking my carb to peices or is it fairly easy?

Cheers Danny

mine had a very similar problem recently. Car refused to idle and I had to pull the choke out to keep it goign at roundabouts etc. Changing points and condensor was the only thing which sorted it out. It still needs choke from cold but after 5 mins driving it will quite happily idle steadily without wobbling at 900 ish rpm.

Other things i tried before this were changing all leads, dizzy rotor arm, dizzy cap, all spark plugs and squirting loads of carb cleaner through the carb. Oh and it had a new fuel pump too as that was playing up. These all improved the running of the car but never sorted out the idle.

So maybe try changing points and condensor before taking the carb apart? They're less than a fiver each i think from gsf if you're mechanically minded or a garage should be able to do it for 30-40 quid.
