How to spot a polo gt engine ?

(sorry if i posted this in the wrong place ) anyways how can i spot if a polo/polo gt engine ? the engine in my car has defo been replaced at some point all the wiring is butchered and all the parts on it are different compared to a standerd mk1 engine from my period ! its got a different rocker cover fuel pump metal not plastic like other mk1 from the same year ? just a general question

its not easy unless you can find the engien code, 1.1-1.4 engiens look the same from the outside

Stick a photo up so we can see, it should be simple to identify.

Alternatively, get some 120 grit sandpaper and rub down the engine block surface underneath the thermostat housing.  It will tell you the engine number
