how many revs????????????

hi! just a quick question……..

i drive a 1.1c and was wondering what sort of speed i should be cruising at in 4th on the motorway? anything past 60 and she sounds like she's screaming her @rse off! any help?

My 1.1c sits happily at 90 on the motorway (100.5 was the record!!), i'd be close to the red line though. The 1.1 and 1.3 are little screamers, but i think you should be worrying at 60mph.

well she certainly does scream! sounds like she can take a little more then! poor little thing! going to hook up a tacho at the weekend so i'll let you know speed/revs!

If it's of any help, I remember that, in my 1.3 CL (slightly different ratios, but still a 4-speed 'box), at 70mph, the revs were at 3600. (CL has a tacho).

It was noisy, and I always meant to get a 5-speed Polo 'box, but the engine didn't seem to mind, and was still going strong at 155k miles when I retired it, due to rust (It's awaiting restoration, see below  :wink:  )

they all rev on motorway less u get a later driver/gl/cl box from a mk2 or a td box but you lose a lot of acceleration and you will need 5 speed selector to do job right

On the way back from the mk1 meet, i was doin 70-75, in my 1.3 driver between3500 and 3900 ish, i seemed alright, just a bit noisy, it should be fine at around 65 - 70. :wink:
