Help please with mk1 polo overcharging!

Hi all, we have a mk1 polo 899 ior 889cc or something like that! lol

It is overcharging the battery and it absolutely stinks of battery acid! The car is due to be on a stand at Inters and if we cant fix it then it cant go :(

The battery has been changed and the alternator was changed, i believe it has a 90amp.

What can we do? I dont have the money to take it in to a garage to do.

Do you think its worth re-wiring?

thanks.

A rewire won't fix the alternator. The regulator pack will have died. You can buy them.

but its a new alternator! the old one did it too. if it is the regulator patch, is there anything that could cause it to go that quick?

Sorry, didn't read that bit. What voltage are you getting at the battery? Is the battery connected the right way round? Have you checked the earth between the engine and chassis?

Does the new alternator have the correct size pully on it too?
