Help -- my 1.3 is cutting out when it warms up
I have just passed my test and had a 1.3 for about a month, although it ran fairly ok from when i had it (cut out a couple of times at junctions) it has now started to loose power / become erratic in its response and then cuts out when it gets warm.
If I let the car cool down for 5 / 10 mins it is ok for a bit.
Can anyone suggest common faults / pointers for this type of problem

I dont know if this will help but I have a 1.3 and at the begining of the year I had the same problem as you.
What I found was that if I drove like a grandad she would cut out when I stopped, but if I drove with my foot
flat to the floor she would run perfectly. I was scratching my head for a few days and decided that it was
probably a carburettor problem. I stripped the carb I found the needle valve was leaking. The only explanation
I can give for my problem was that driving like a grandad caused the carburettor to flood with excess fuel
(because of the leaky valve) thus making her cut out when stopping. When driving with foot to floor I was
using the fuel and it was not flooding the carb so when I stopped all was fine. I hope this helps.
I must also say that this is not the only thing that could be the problem. Make sure your distributor cap, rotor
arm, points, plugs and HT leads are all in good condition too. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
