HELP!!! CARB ICING

Hiya,

I currently have a MK1 golf C (1.1) and have recently fitted a weber conversion carb and KN bolt on filter and am now having trouble with carb icing.

The problem being i have misplaced the original air filter!! DOH!!

Anyone know how to cure this problem or know where i can find an original air filter housing for a MK1 1100

Cheers!!

Only seen photos of K&N bolt on filters, but they don't appear to have warm air feeds so must be prone to icing in the winter. Not sure if you can still get the original airbox new from VW. If not best bet would be to look for second hand one either from a breakers or seem to remeber couple of 1100/1300s (think its the same airbox?) being broken for spares in the For Sale section of the forum.

Rj,

How much difference in performance did you notice with the k&n bolt on? do you have a photo? where did you buy it from?

cheers.

I had this on an 1100C with a weber back in the early 90s, the warm air feed is essential during cool damp weather! Carb icing very common!

I had to give up with the bolt on air filter as there is no way to give it a warm feed, summer only option! There was a reason VW used the 'frying pan'.

If you go back to the frying pan, on the 1100 it's also worth checking the condition of the preheating cover that goes over the exhaust manifold, most are rusted to bits and so not much warmth goes up the warm air feed

Cheers,

Drew.
