Headgasket Gone!

Hello everyone!

Well it seems my bragging about my golf breezing through it's M.O.T was short lived as last night the head gasket went to pot! It's a problem I've never had to deal with before so i've a few questions.

How hard is it to strip down the head (1100 'C' small block)?

What needs to be replaced? I.e what parts will I need to order?

Is there anything else worth replacing whilst the head is off?

Also does anyone know anywhere that's good for skimming heads in the Peterborough area?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank You

Miles

to be honest its a great chance to clean the head up and resit the valves and new stem sills etc

change everything you can afford to do aswell belts oils/filters

you need a head gasket set mainly

also see if you could get some polish the head while its off normaly fairly cheap

Absolute minimum is head gasket and head bolts. Very, very good idea to change the cambelt as well. Worth a look at the water pump to see if that's doing ok, and as mentioned above if there's any headwork you want doing it's a good opportunity. :)

Cheers for the replies chaps, finished off repairing the little four pot yesterday, cleaned all the head, replaced:

Water-Pump
Headgasket
Head Bolts
Exhaust Manifold Gaskets
Inlet Manifold Gasket
Valve Stem Seals
Cam Belt

Topped him up with oil and now it runs like a peach.
