Getting my 1.1 started, fuel pump not pulling the fuel? Help
Iv been trying to get my engine running, it's a 1.1 1983, the fuel tanks got a bit of rust flouting about so I put a new in line filter in and got a bit of fuel hose from that into a jerry can, the engine turns over just doesn't fire up, I can see that no fuel is passing the filter.
Any ideas?
Am I right in thinking that a 1.1 doesn't have a fuel relay?
I had the air box/ filter off so I could see the carb would that affect the pump drawing fuel?

It's a mechanical fuel pump and turning it over on the starter doesn't always produce enough vacuum. Best idea I've found is you put enough fuel directly into the carb & start the car, that way the speed of the pump being driven from the camshaft will suck the fuel up.

Worked a treat thanks! Starts like a dream now! Although after 5mins of running, there was what sounded like something bubbling/boiling coming from the manifold!? It worried me so I turned it off! Any ideas or is this normal?

Hard to diagnose that one without actually hearing it. If it was working before you cleaned the tank I'd leave it alone ???

Check the "carb mount" the bonded rubber part that is, they are well known for becomeing unbonded with age and they are still available from "G.S.F."

It has'nt been running for about 12 years! The sound was coming from the exhaust manifold, not the carb manifold, the smoke was white but didn't smell like exhaust fumes?

Must be a slight coolant leak somewhere in that area then.

Had a look today there's a hole in the front exhaust pipe where the return for the carb manifold is, I'm hoping this is where the smoke is coming from, I'm on the look out for a new one.
Still don't know what the bubbling sound was about?!
