engine code 1100

hey,

I have a little problem.
Usually, a 1100 has engine code GG, or FA.

I looked at my engine, and I can only find LH.
Am I looking at the wrong places? Or is it another engine?

sorry for my english

LH wouldn't be the engine code, vw never made and engine with the code starting with 'L'

Couldn't tell you where to look tho, I've never worked on a small block engine.  I'm sure someone will help you soon.

It'll be on the front left hand side of the engine block where it meets the head. The block sticks out a bit further than the head, the code will be printed here but you might have to wipe off 20 or so years of oil/road gunk before you can see it.

The Golf 1100 engine code was FA up till 1979 - when the GG was introduced.

I thought that FA ran from 74-83 with GG being introduced in 81 ?

No, VW FA was last built in July 79 and the GG took over from Aug 79. The GG is really just a revised FA, thinl VW tinkered/modified induction and exhaust system to bring it in line with the newly introduced 1.3.
