DISTRIBUTOR (1.3 Driver)
Hi all, car is firing on three cylinders currently after having HT leads and full spark plug renewal.
I am lead to believe the dizzy may be acting up, and once I have checked/replaced the cap and rotor arm I think this may confirm this (I haven't actually seen them yet)..
Where can I get hold of a replacement distributor? I have had a look on GSF but they only sell the caps and rotor arms, will I need to ring them directly?
Where else could I find a replacement?
On the subject, if anyone has one knocking about that works so I can use it as a test then that what be awesome, chuck me a PM or something!
It is for a 1.3 Driver
Cheers,
Chris

is the 4th cylinder (the one that's not firing) the same cylinder all the time, or is it just a random choice of one cylinder not firing (easy to check - just pull off the plug lead to the cylinder you suspect isn't firing - if it makes no difference to the engine, its one cylinder only.
On the assumption that it will be only one cylinder that's not firing, it will almost certainly NOT be your distributor - if the dizzy was dead or dying, it would fail on all cylinders, or maybe on random firing intervals - there's nothing inside the dizzy that could cause just one cylinder to misfire (apart from one of the four lobes on the points cam being worn down, but this is highly unlikely)
My guess is that the dizzy cap is cracked and a new cap and rotor arm will solve it

ah cool, what you said makes sense actually. hopefully a new cap and arm will solve it then. if it doesnt, is it likely that there is an issue with compression that is causing one cylinder not to fire? ive been told it might be worth doing a compression test..
it is definately only one cylinder that is not firing, so its probs not the dizzy then.
and eurocarparts didn't seem to have dizzies, just caps for Mk2's. gona have to go for one being broken or something

Hi
I got a replacement distributor from probedistributors.com over a year ago.
Couldn't find one anywhere else! Nobody else could suggest antwhere else at the time
Hope this helps, I just remember really suffering in my search for one when mine was internally leaking oil!

ah cool, thanks Nik I shall remember the site. yeh it seems that nowhere does them and finding a secondhand one would probs still prove tough. and i doubt Volkswagen still produce spare dizzies?
hopefully I won't need one though, will just have to see how things go
thanks again!
