Diesel?
Currently it's a 1.6 petrol in a cabby GL, but i'm only 17, and i don't want to be gunning it everywhere and need a smaller engine for lower insurance.. As currently i've been quoted nothing under a grand..
I just thought if i could take out the existing (not-working) engine out of the cabby then slot in a 1.3 diesel i could get some savings, and have the car running! Happy days!
So what engines could i aquire relatively cheaply (anyone here got any offers?) would slot straight in, or would it be easier to buy a diesel and take it out myself?
I was just thinking about buying veg oil to run it on.. so i guess newer engines are a no-no..
Thanks peeps
P.s. Anyone want to buy a 1.6l petrol carbed engine? Gloucester area!

If you can't afford the insurance on a 1.6 cabby, look at a small block 1.1 hatchback, otherwise you'll need to shop around more for insurance or save up or something…..the insurance is always high for a young driver and this kind of car! Sorry!

I think i'll hold back on restoring the cabby and try and keep this engine in.
Thanks :-)

When I was doing test quotes before I got mine the quotes between a car of your spec and a 1.8 gti were exactly the same.
Cabrios are seen as desirable and older cars are generally considered easier to steal - hence a higher insurance risk reflected in the high premium.
If it eases your pain somewhat I'm 23 and my premium was ?940 for the year through Adrian Flux
P.S. if you're desperate for a diesel look for a 1.6 out of a caddy maybe? I guess the engine mounts would be similar but I'm probably wrong!
