could be valves/valve clearances or worn piston rings in no 2.

Take the head off and check it or get it checked.

Replace rings if worn.

check valve toleraces first,

lumpy tick over??
pain to start when cold??
low MPG?

al can be causes from wrong valve tolerances
as a valve couldnt be closing propper = blow past the valve seat.

if these are ok,

the gasket could be gone, or even the valves need re lapping, so they seal propper.

if you go a head gasket, get it skimmed and valves re-lapped, and new stem seals
= happy days

Do a leakdown test. It will show you where the gas is escaping.
