Cutting out problems .... Fuel related ?

Hi all just got my mk1 painted and when i was bringing it to the paint shop it would keep cutting out like jumping then no response from the throttle ! i then looked at the fuel ad see that theres loads of rust and dirt inside it ! anyways the car runs quite lumpy not too bad but just notiecable … when it does cut out it wont start back up for 5 mins then back to life it gos then 5 mins later the same happends ! was going to get a new tank ad fuel pump and change the spark plugs but have no idea if thats it ! any ideas what it could be or anyone had this problem before  ? thanks

Sounds like your tank has rusted and it's got into the fuel lines mate.

That is blocking it and restricting fuel supply. Might be time for a new tank and a flush through of the lines to clean it all up. How old is it?

its 30 years old and the pump tank and all that look like theve  never been changed ! was gonna order a tank tonight but theres two tanks each with the wholes on both sides so need to see mine for that ! going to change the fuel lines and pump too and clean the carb to make sure its tip top ! do the 1.3 have a in tank pump does anyone know by chance ? thanks !
