Carburettor help
Sorry for the very basic question…but….
My carburetter is apparently on it's last legs.
What should I be repacing it with? (part/company etc) and how much should it cost me? Car is 1.1
Thanks.

I've not had many problems with the Pierburg carbs on our Polo's but the most popular conversion is to a Weber:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-1272cc-1983-90-WEBER-32-34-DMTL-CARBURETTOR-KIT-/200604436919?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2eb4f4c9b7#ht_887wt_907
You can pick them up secondhand for around the £100 mark, less on ebay if your lucky.
Before you rush out to spend your £ post a thread in this section: http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=20
You never know, it might be a simple fix.

Thanks.
Have had two people have a look and both have said that it was difficult to set up, it doesn't idle very well and is running noisy and at about 80%.
I had heard that the weber conversion was popular and was more reliable carburettor but I don't know anything about it.

Correct Weber carb for the 1.1 is a 34ICH, but be careful, there are several different types - only one is suitable for the Golf (lots available for LandRovers and early Fords, but these won't work on your car)
like this one, but available from £50 - £100 secondhand
If you send me a PM with your email address, I'll send you a document that will help you identify the correct carb and the correct jets

put a new weber on my 1.1 a few months back, made a massive difference. seems like a good carb but try not to get it from Webcom, they started ignoring my calls and not gettin back to me when i had issues fitting, bad customer service.
but the carb itself made the car run 100 times better
