Carb help needed asap
Hello guys, i have put a 1.6 twin choke dtml carb on my 1.3 and obviously its over fuelling, so its unbareable to drive, im getting backfires through the carb so plan on changing the jets, condensor and then check the points and timing, any ideas on what jet sizes i need?
Thanks Sam

Ha Sam
Just why do you want to put these carbs on this 1300cc engine, from my experience mate your going screw the engine up quicker then you you think.
Sorry about the downer mate but if the engine is back firing, is,t it telling you something.

That carb is WAY too big for a 1.3 - I doubt if you'll get jets small enough to make it run properly
Too much fuel will give you bore-wash, which will knacker the engine very quickly indeed
Take it off ASAP

My words precisley nigelo.
Just how much power do you think your going to get out of a 1300cc Sam
its built as a 1300 and not to take that much juice in one go mate. i think you may want to at least think about an 1800cc before you think about that sort of carb, mate

in fairness, a mate has a 1300 nova motor sat in bits in the shed. this was running cam and exhaust and was happily running on a golf 1600 pierberg jetted for a 1.6's fuel load!
you CAN get jets for anything. i've seen twinchoke webers on 1l grasstrack cars etc.
Just pop the old one on to get it to a dyno, whack the new one on and run it down the rolling road.
they'll be able to advise and probably supply jets there and then.
wont make a big differance without a cam, intake and exhaust though in honesty, bar wrecking your fuel economy at full throttle!
be honest guys, who runs a 1300 on bike carbs? lots of us. and they can fuel a shedload more thasn a twinchoke weber ever can!!!
I agree it's over kill without the other mods but don't rant about overfueling. thats what the jets are for.
oh and make sure you fit the 1.6 airbox else you'll struggle with carb icing at the moment with all the cold weather.

also when i got the manifold customised to suit the mk1, the engineer welded up the two i think exhaust ports and the one on the bottom of the manifold, would this affect the running, because the exhuast gases arent getting out fast enough. It seems to be running but wants to stall, when at low revs, its got a new dizzy, with new points, cap, rotar arm, new condensor, coil so dont really know what else it could be, any ideas.

Was it running ok before you did what you did ?

yes it was, thats why i think its to do with the manifold, its all downjetted now to suit but still does it, getting an original carb, inlet manifold and airbox monday so ill try it and hopefully it works
