Im currently doing exactly this. After consulting my local dyno man (carb expert) im going to try and use kawasaki zx6r carbs and they will hopefully only require minor setting up. I am making my own manifold using bike rubbers instead of the original silicon hose as it is far superiour that silicon hose at sealing. I will have pictures in the next few weeks as im going to start making the manifold this week.  With regard to fueling a motorbike fuel pump mounted by the fuel tank is a tried and tested method.
Hope this helps :)

They'll need jetting out to 1.45 I think, then as said the manifold, if you wanna do it yourself cut it right down to make a new manifold or get Bogg bros to make you one up?

Bike fuel pump is correct as it has a built in regulator, either that or facet pump or similar with a fuel pump regulator to accompany but needs to be 3bar pump.

Then when fitted you'll ideally need em rolling road tuned to get best gains and economy.

hi I've recently bought a mk1 with the GF1300 motor and was also thinking of going the bike carb route for now.

My question with regards to the manifold: with the 2 ports above the intake ports (looks like exhaust ports to warm up the manifold)

A) do i have the manifold flange cut to blank them off
and if i do blank them off will it affect the exhaust circulation in the head… example exhaust gas build up in chamber.

B) do i have piping welded onto the manifold to run the 2 ports into the exhaust

C) do i have piping welded onto the manifold to loop the 2 ports.
and if i go this route, say the these ports a feed from cyls 2 & 3 will this affect the stroke as if say cyl2 to is on the exhaust stroke, cyl3 would be on the compression stroke and visa-vesa.

many thanks
Timothy

I am currently in the process of carrying out this mod on my 1300. With regards to the 2 small exhaust ports on the inlet side, I am going to be drilling them out ever so slightly, tapping them using a tapered tap and then fitting tapered plugs. This means I can go back to standard easy enough. It's not ideal really but unless you get them welded up behind the valve then nothing is going to be.

I bought my flange off fleebay from This guy. Laser cut and all but the walls of the ports are a bit narrow, I think I should get away with it though!

Look Here Too!  lots of info but on polos instead.

Also look here and here!

Hiya, just thought I'd share my thoughts on your questions.

A) Shouldn't do too much as the exhaust port is always open from behind the valve where this extra port is. the flow maybe disrupted but hopefully not too much, I imagine the gas will try and find the easiest way out.

B) Having the pipes made up and running them to your exhaust sounds like a faff. but doable as long as you keep the standard down pipe or incorporate this in to whatever you have.

C) Joining the two shouldn't be a problem as the other valve will be closed. But then you may as well blank them as that is what effectively you are doing anyway

Thanks mate, makes sense.

just wanted to make sure, last thing i want is to have problems or lose power over something as small like that.
