Correct, as far as I know ALL front hubs on a mk1 are the same, so its a case of getting the right carriers for the calipers..
As someone else has said, you can use polo carriers ( I used ones off a mk3 " fox " )
And some early mk2 gti calipers, although I still need to find some carrier bolts :dontknow:
Then of course you have to use the gti discs, so you could also fit some uprated pads/disc at the same time .

They don't bolt on. If you want a cheap upgrade to 256mm, use the Vauxhall caliper.
What vauxhall caliper, do you need different carriers & can you fit 14s over the?
