best engine?
i have a mk1 1.3 driver but have been told that its a mk2 1.3 driver engine so not sure if anything has been moved,
any way my carb is spitting oil and oli spraying from back of engine on drivers side, hard to start and keep started so am thinking engine is dead
i have been advised not to bother with getting a big block conversion so was wondering wot would be the best for performance and easiest to fit engine would be and would all the other components fit or would i have to change some of them?
any help?

1.3 3F from the mk3 Polo GT or a 1.4 ABD from the mk3 Golf with the 3F cam and injection system or a 1.4 16V AFH from the newer Polo's.

The block's bolt in and the gearbox will fit. After that you will need to make some mods.

ok do you know wot sum of these mods would be? as im not very well educated about these things and will be getting other people to carry out most of the work, also which 1 would be easiest and best for performance do you know?

I would find out what skills you have access to first. All the conversions may require some welding and electrical mods.

Virtually all the Polo engines fit, but the 3F from the mk3 GT is 75hp. That's your starting point. The 1.4 ABD gives you a drop in compression, but makes up for it with the capacity so you're in the 80hp region. The 1.4 AFH has 100hp to start with.

It could be that your crankcase breather is blocked, also I think Mk2 1.3s had a plastic oil trap fitted between the breather and the air filter case. I would check this before spending any money. (I think its almost impossible for the carb to spit oil).
