Battery Housing Question

Does anyone have a photo of the battery mounting/housing assembly ? ie. a pic of where the battery should be , but isnt in the car. Mine is held in with a cable tie to the wing (its fimly in place). The prev owner told me when the MOT man adjusted the front RHS headlight for the car to pass, he nicked the battery mounting thing. I think i should buy one as it sits quite precariously on some rotting steel runners. Any ideas??

ps. i still have yet to find a mk1 at a scrap yard! My list of bits is quite big now!!

There?s a metal clamp that screws down between the battery and headlamp (13mm bolt I think). It?s a bent piece of metal about 1.5 inch square with an hole in the middle.

The problem is even with this tightened up the battery can still slide left to right. This is because the proper VW battery has a fatter ?lip? than 99% of the replacement ones.  :banghead:

What you are supposed to be given at the same time as the battery is an extra piece of plastic to make the bottom maintaining lip fatter. I?ve come across loose batteries on millions of Golfs. What I normally do is place some old kitchen ?Lino? (so it doesn?t retain water and cause rot) under the battery to lift it up so that the clamp does actually clamp it down. Hope this makes sense!

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Thanks Early, i'll have a look . Perhaps i can make my own piece . I have had to make clamps for batteries on prev. cars. The lino is a great idea.
I think the actual plate the battery sits on, with the hole for the bolt you mentioned is missing though . i'll take a photo when i get the chance, to show you what i mean.
