3F loom question

I've got hold of a 3F engine and box to fit. I was originaly planning on running it using the Weber i have at the moment but i'm now thinking of going with the injection for the added mpg.

I'm on the look out for the bits i'm missing, one of them being the loom. I was wondering if anyone could tell me just how much of the loom or looms i need from the polo to get the engine up and running in my Mk1 as ive not messed with VW looms before.  :dontknow:

Any help much appreciated

I was trawling this forum aswell as the club polo one until around three this morning looking for info, i got plenty of useful info but the stuff to do with how much loom needed was pretty vauge, best i could find was a reference to someone using a stripped down engine bay loom but that was as in depth as it got. Is that all i need, the Engine bay loom?

A lot of info seems to have gone from the different forums due to the threads being old and the stuff thats about is in little snippets all over the place.

You need the full GT engine loom which is the one connected to the ecu, but this unplugs from the rest of the car quite easily. You then need the connectors and a small amount of the loom going from the the engine loom to the rest of the car. Depending on your choice of fuel pump, you may need the cable from the GT pumps to the fuse box. You only need to connect approx. 6 wires to make it run.

Cheers yeha, a fair bit of the info i've turned up was yours.

When you say from the engine loom to the rest of the car, what do the connectors and extra bit of loom actually attach too? I'm at a bit of a loss as i didn't remove the engine and i've never even seen a polo loom, i'm used to fiddling with vauxhall and opel stuff.

You stick crimp terminals on the spare wires and plug them into the Golf loom. It allows you to keep the complete GT engine loom. I suppose you could just cut up the GT loom, but that's a bit gash.

Speaking of GMs, I've got a Manta. I've had a pair of Kadett Coupes and a couple of mk2 Astras too.

Ah, i see, the extra bit's not essential then, just saves cutting the engine loom about. I've got a wiring diagram for the GT loom and was wondering what this extra bit was for as it looked like it had everything there.

I used to have a Manta myself, fitted an XE to that. I quite fancy a Kadett coupe myself but they go for strong money now.

I've had a 16V manta. Cost me a slab of Stella, around ?30. It was quick, but rotten. I've got a few XEs so one will be in this car eventually. If you think Kadetts are expensive here, you should see prices in Europe. €3k+ for a 1200s.
