1.4 16v polo engine in a mk1

Does anybody know if this is a straightforward conversion? If I did this id like to use the gearbox too. My golf is a 1.3cl and would love to up the power. Seeing as you can pick up an entire polo for £500ish, seems like it might be worthwhile. Anyone heard/seen/done this before?

yeah been done, pretty straight forward from what ive seen. main stumbling block is zausty, tapparently you fit polo stuff then chop/splice it to oem zaust.  I'd fit a MK1 GTI system as it bigger bore than the 1.3 I'd expect, splice polo system to that.

dont suppose youve got any links to sites where you might have seen this? I expected the exhaust problems to be honest. Im more concerned about getting the gearbox to work properly. How much BHP does the 16v lump put out? anyone know any engine codes to look out for?

box should be alright, requires same modifications as putting any 5 speeder in a small block, custom box mount welding up etc.

not got any links to hand, but I saw a couple posts on ED38 about it. tbh its no more dificult than say a GT conversion really, apart from the zausty.

wiring is pretty stright forward if you have the whole car to work from, alternativerly you could run it on carbs

they're 100bhp standard and engine code to look out for is AFH, on clubpolo forum theyre asking around £350 for engine for conversions etc so full car for £500 is a steal really, might mate just got rid of one for around £200 full car but he didn't let me know first!
