i'm not sure mate, i'd imagine higher than a golf c etc, not just 'cause of bigger engine, but because it is dressed up to look like a gti

although mine isn't anymore and i am paying 2k to insure it  :banghead:  (wheels and coilies declared)

i'm 18, don't have the driver 1.3 in mine anymore, got a 1.3 out of an '88 polo, so i don't know what the original engines are like.

they're sound dailies, don't drive mine daily anymore though as i can't get it into my work car park without scraping cause it's too low!

Hey, i have a 1.3 Driver (83), being used as my daily since finished resto last month. Fully comp cost me about ? 160 but i'm in my mid thirties, Classic insurance with 3000mls limit per year. May have to sell due to house move. :banghead: Are you interested??   Photos in forum - New Folks First ever mk1 and More photos of First ever mk1.

i've got an 83 driver too  :D and use it as a daily it has broke down on me a couple of times in about 2 years but all have been a roadside fix in 10 mins normally just an issue with points gap (with mine anyway) or split hoses which are pretty hard to come by i have noticed. generally a pretty reliable car tho but you gotta expect a few things to go wrong with a car over 25 years old.

as for insurance i'm 22 and pay about 700 quid thrid party fire and theft and have 9 points on my licence    ! and i've just had a renewal quote of 800 fully comp with break down cover and all that from a classic insurer so not too bad really (compared to 2k although when your 18 your always gonna pay silly insurance unfortuanately).

i'd say find one with a solid shell as your main priority as the mechanics are easier to fix than the body and if it don't have full interior or all the trim it can be a pain in the backside and expensive to get bits….. hope some of that helps dude.
