1.3 noisey runner

right, i have a 1.3 golf (engine code GF) and it was running alright, not too loud, but not silent obviously. i then had a problem with the points and replaced them. the car now runs better than ever, but just sounds sooo tappety. i firstly checked the oil as that was my first instinct, but that was bang on the mark and then i tried adjusting the tappets and that made no difference. i was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what this could be???

it was rebuilt about 1,000 miles ago so i doubt it'l be anything major

Have you checked the engine has good oil pressure? Did you fit a new oil pump? did you clean the strainer on the oil pick up tube? is the oil pressure relief valve stuck?

that was my thoughts, because i cleaned the oil pump etc, but didnt replace it. Also, the oil pressure light flickers every now and again but i thought it was the wiring as so many have had the problem.

its a worn cam and rockers thats making the noise. and wear is due to a spray bar union coming loose

so new cam and rockers required!

I woulda suggested a replace as well, good luck!
