1.3 MPG?

Anyone got any ideas what a standard 1.3 will put out in mpg? Help much appreciated.

I ran a 1.3 Driver for 5 years. Winter choke out short journeys across town to work, less than 30mpg. Longer runs average @35mpg. Long summer holiday crusing in Scotland @45mpg.

when I ran my son's 1.3 Driver for a week, I was staggered to only get the same mpg as my 400bhp Fiat Coupe - around 29-30mph average

How is this possible?

Old/inefficient design, using a carb instead of fuel injection, etc. Or, engine is worn out, or not tuned properly.

Mine gets 39 mpg on a long run.  I'm not that careful with it either!

I get 40 on the combined cycle - best ever was 47 on a long trip, cruising just shy of 65mph.

Interestingly, now that we've fitted proper electronic ignition and set the carb up properly, fuel consumption is far better - now getting around 300 miles from a tank, which is getting on for 40mpg

After running my CL for a while its getting about 30-35 mpg. Which isn't great doing 60 miles most days.

I'm upgrading to a weber and I'll have to enquire as to how much it would be to have an electronic ignition system put in.

I used to get 60-70miles on £5 @49p/litre which equivalently now is about 30mile on £5, not too shoddy and long haul it was better.

I don't think you can grumble @30mpg really. I wouldn't think upgrading you carb will make that much of difference really, depending on the age of the car..

yeah u have to remember how old everything is on these cars! i would think the  GTi is the most efficent out the petrol golfs if driven with a light foot! but come on lol who can do that!!! :-)

Im getting around 29mpg going to and from work. Im pretty happy with that considering I let it tick over to warm it up in the mornings. I havent tuned it since fitting plugs, rotor arm, points & condenser either

My 1.1 returns 33mpg
