1.3 keeps cutting out when ticking over

my mk1 1.3 keeps cutting out when i put the clutch down, it wont tickover and will only run if i keep foot on accellerator has anyone got any idea whats up with it.

I've been in that boat 8)

if it's a cold-start problem, then you need more choke - simples

if it's a hot-running problem, then you may have an air leak - check the joints on your carb to the airbox, and also the joints in your inlet manifold.

does it just cut out as if you turn the key, or is it like it's slowly stalling?

there's still a number of issues it could be - try that first.

P.S. try pulling the choke on whilst it's hot, see if that sorts it… could prove an air leak.

I think it was mentioned abouve, but have you checked your vacume pipes? There a few at the back near the carb.. some of them just work there way loose over time. Failing that, where abouts are you? There could be some one near you that could help?

im from staines and my mates dad is a machanic we looked at it today and the rubber gasket holding the carb on has split letting air in, thanks both for your help
