1.3 engine upgrades
Running a standard 1.3 engine with bog standard carb and filter. What cheap quick mods are out there to increase power/reliability?
Thanks

cam from a polo GT, inlet manifold from a GK engine code and exhaust mani/downpipe from a G40.
there aren't any mods to improve reliability, just buy a haynes manual and a socket set - maintenance is the best mod for reliability!

I've got a K&N filter, weber 34ICH, Ashley 4-2-1 manifold, and advanced timing to support a high octane fuel.
None of it works.

On my 1.3 I'm fitting GSXR 600 bike carbs, toying with the idea of a Polo GT cam and thats it for now, the engines reliable enough already I'm sure since I've thrashed mine and it's absolutely fine! With 188,000 miles too…
Oh, and some fancy air filters…

You can only fit the polo GT cam into a polo/mk2 Golf engine. It won't fit in the original mk1 engine I'm afraid, totally different design.

^^^ agreed funny as!
to be honest, for the amount of time and money spent, i wouldnt try to drag any more ponies out of that engine. instead you will make a huge difference sorting the braking and handling, so she stops quicker, and carries more speed through the corners. go to gti or better.
