1.1 to skoda 1.6?

Hi everyone, new to this forum and the whole mark1 game but i've got a question. This might sound really dumb and i might be answering my own question however, people talk about engine swaps from a 1.1 to a polo 1.3 gt engine (out of a mark3) and its obvioulsy possible, now, if thats the case then a common engine swap in mark3 polo's is from a 1.3 to a skoda 1.6 engine (cant remember the engine codes) so is it possible to swap from a 1.1 to the 1.6 skoda? has anyone done this? and if so why isnt it more common as the skoda engines are (iirc) 80-100bhp standard?

cheers matt

Most people use the gt engine on bike carbs or similar to avoid the fuel injection conversion as this isn't straight forward.

Assuming the skoda motor has a similar intake manifold and will take bike carbs or twin webers/su's etc then it should be good.  Unless you fancy a full custom fuel injection set up.

only other thing is is what gearbox they use as it's not always compatable with the mk mounts.

ok, well its gonna take some research anyway and i know you can use bike carbs on the skoda engine, obvioulsy at cost.

failing that option would it not be easier to put an in-line fuel pump and use the gt head on the golf 1.1 bottom end and gearbox? as you can tell ive played about with engine in the past, but im used to vauxhalls and have not long made the jump to vw

errm, well I'm not sure really having not looked inside a 1.1. I think there are enough differences in the block to make it a bit more awkward?

Depends on the 1.1 I suppose. I know my formel e has the high compression engine, which I'm guessing was achieved by reducing the dish in the piston, meaning the 1.1 piston's would smash the gt valves to bits?

I'm sure there will be someone on here who can be sure.

best bet would prob be the tank from a gti mated to the polo gt fuel pump which could then run the gt or skoda fuel injection. only issue would be wiring it all in, and the possible gearbox issues.

You should try on Club Polo for engine swap details as they play with small blocks a bit more than the Golf big boys.
I don't think the GT head will fit a 1.1 or 1.3, as they have the older solid lifter head, and the GT is all hydralic. It probably could be done, but wouldn't be worth it.

Personally, I'm fitting twin 40's to my 1300.

Probably won't go any better, but it will sound nice
