DRIVESHAFTS HUBS CALIPERS SHOCKS
Would you? Would you really? Why? Explain plz…
What you would need, to be fair, is the "big block" engine mount welded into the offside front chassis rail as it is in a different orientation in the 1.1/1.3 as it is in the 1.5/1.6/1.8.
You'd probably want to run a Mk1 GTI gearbox which is going to mean running the GTi gearlinkage (if you ever want to be able to select 5th that is) and you will need one driveshaft, the other is the same across all Mk1s.
If you are scavanging bits off a GTI you would do well to take the front brake calipers and caliper carriers as these will allow fitment of the 239mm ventilated discs. Hubs were the same across the entire range.
You should be able to get most of the parts you need from a Mk2 Scirocco if you can't find a Mk1 GTI as these used the Mk1 chassis, etc…
To be fair, you are probably starting with the wrong engine. The 1600 Driver engine was never as good as the GTI one because it's acutally fundamentally different (1595cc as opposed to 1588cc in the GTI). They only make 75bhp which is the same power output as a 3F Mk3 Polo GT engine which is a very easy swap for the 1.1, ie - it bolts in on the Mk1 Golf engine mounts AND uses the original Mk1 gearbox - simple as pie - mmmm pie. Of course there is an added bonus with the 1.3 too - the car remains in the small engine - cheap tax bracket.
Other engines which bolts straight in include the 1.4 16v from the Seat Arose GTI and the 1.6 out of the Skoda Felicia. You can even build a 1.6 16v and use a modified Polo GT fuel rail with Megasuirt to make it fly.
If you are going to all the trouble of doing the engine mount, etc, etc then you want something like a 1.8 16v from a Mk2 or the 2.0 8v from the Mk3 GTI. You will be disappointed by the performance of the 1.6 driver considering how much work is involved in fitting it.
