Hi all, got a few questions and issues i need addrest , went out to start her this morning and gave it half choke and one pump of the peddle as that usually starts not a problem, but didnt fire up, gave a kick aand kept birling aas if flooded, so took the carb off to see if there was any rreason behind it, it seemed tthe rubber mount between tthe carb aand the manifold was split, but once i had iit off and llooked inside it was jjust the oouter rubber tthat was burst, but found what i thaught was a leak off that wwas blocked with a pipe and a split pin, i want to know what this pipe is for and if a pipe ccomes off it were does it go , i will try and uupload piks ,thanks Steven

If its that take off on the side your refering to, that usually has a vaccumm pipe coming off of it and attaches to the Vaccumm advance on the side of the distributor. The Solex PICT carb was issued to a variety of Early VWs especially th Beetles and Camper vans, For this reason there can sometimes be more than one vaccumm take off on the base of the carb, so when one is used, the others are redundant and capped of using a bit of hose and a self tap screw or simmilar. Id certainly change that rubber gasket while its off, and get some carb cleaner on it.

Thanks for the help, i stripped it down and made sure all was okay and adjusted the choke cable ,fired up no problem at all, so i will see how it goes, also on the under side off the airfilter box is there a vaccum pipe ment tto go onto the top vaccum pipe bit , i think its to do with the choke but there was nothing on it or neer it that looked like it was ment to bbe there ,

Thanks

thats the crankcase breather I think, wouldnt affect the runnning, but oil mist comes out of it and fed into that connector for emissions.

The big one is a breather, should either be plugged or have the breather attached. one of the small ones is open, and the other connects to the warm/cold air valve. I'll find out which goes to which if you want.

The two small hose unions are vacuum points. the notched one on the left goes to the vacuum diaphragm on the distributor, the other goes to the butterfly on the standard airbox intake trumpet.

The biggun is the crankcase breather, you can feel a dome shaped object most of the way down the block, this doesn't need to be attached, if you don't mind oil mist going everywhere
