1.1 idle stalling

i bought the car ealier this ear, running fine then suddenly started to loose all power would not idle and would go in and out of this fazei ended up getting

new doleretto carb
rotary arm, dis cover
HT leads
clutch
plugs……………………………..

only to find out that rust had formed around the fuel tank and as the fuel becomes lower rust is gting suked into the engine, i'm a student and forking out all this ? istiilting me to the point of getting a new car, is this a common problem with MK1's? also how much would a tank cost and will any MK1 tank fit?

Hi, I've got a similar problem with idling.

I was told to get a new fuel tank (around ?60-70 from GSF Parts of Eurocar parts), new fuel filler neck as mine is rusty too, get fuel lines flushed out (air hosed at a garage) and change the fuel filter. That'll get any rust out of the system for good.

Rusty fuel filler necks and tanks are a common problem with the mk1s. Infact a guide to replacing the fuel filler neck can be found in the "Technical" section of the tool bar on the left. Alternatively rust can be removed by using a magnet from the fuel tank but some you'll still have some in the system I guess from the filler neck and left in the fuel lines.

I think any mk1 tank will fit, if you get a filler neck make sure to get the normal one not the more expensive Cabby one (explained in the filler neck guide).

I'm also a student heading to Uni in sept, just keep at it!
