1.1 Engine Mounts

Need to change the engine mounts on my 1093cc (engine has started to vibrate at low idle and can feel a pulling through the gearstick when changing gear).

How many mounts does the 1.1 have? Should I change them all and what is the best way to do them?

Cheers

The one's at either side next to the chassis rail are unique to the small block. The one at the front under the radiator and behind the gearbox are interchangeable with big block items although there are different rear ones for heavier engines. The ones at the chassis rail are easy to get out if you have a vice and a hacksaw. Cut through the bush wall from the inside to the mount and then knock it out with the hammer. Use the vice to push the new bush back in.

Thanks, does the 1.1 have a rear mount, couldn't see one obvious? What did you support the engine with when you took the mounts out - jack or crane/hoist?

If you look under the car from the front, you'll see a lump hanging down to the right of the exhaust. The rear mounting rubber is on top of this. Dead easy to change all of the mounts except for the gearbox - chassis rail one. Just support the engine with a jack under the sump. The chassis rail one does come out with a bit of wrenching and twisting. Easier to do if you support the gearbox with the jack, remove the front and rear mounts, then lower the gearbox by an inch or so, which allows the mount to lift off the gearbox studs.

Cheers - I have seen the rear one then, didn't think it looked up to the job of being an engine mount
