1.1 and 1.3 engine

Ive got a 1.1 mk1, gone off the idea of an engine swap that involves changing everything. Is a 1.3 just a bored out 1.1? If not what can a 1.3 be bored out to? Also im assuming the 1.1 and 1.3 engine are the same engine mounts? Cheers Rob

There are other detail differences like valve sizes and timing but yes the 1300 is a basically higher capacity 1100. Unless your 1100 is dead its abit pointless swapping to gain another 5-10bhp. Better to swap to a bigger block engine but then lots of other stuff needs changing and its quicker, easier and cheaper to sell and by a big block car in the 1st place.

Use the ABD from a mk3 1.4 Golf. Add some Polo GT parts and you'll be getting on for 90hp.

Yeah i suppose, i dont really want to nor have the knowledge or cash to put a big block in tho. Also seen a 1.1 standard a couple of weeks ago go for ?1200, and a 1.1 with a 1.8 16v engine the other day (better body condition) went for ?560 (rnm). I no its only one example but it seems to me, you devalue your car by putting in an bigger/unoriginal engine. Yeah you get the power, but lose the character or charm of your golf maybe??

would an ABD block use exactly the same mounts as a 1.3??

Yep, bolts in.

first off, dont be put off by people telling you to put a big block in! there is plenty that can be done with the small'uns, just take a look at any polo forum! my personal choice was to go to the more modern (more tuning options) hydro head polo gt engine with a p+p, big valves, 4 branch, twin choke and 5 speed box. it flies and theres more to come! the entire multi point fuel injection system will fit, but im fitting bike carbs! if i were to build a 2nd engine the abd would be a dame good starting point.
do some research and go for it, oh and upgrade to gti stoppers for god sake!

ps. are those black teledails on your motor? got a better pic?

I dunno what to, found a fella on ebay who can supply me with a stainless steel manifold, put a full SS exhaust on it aswell. Yeah there teledials, take a look…

beutifull golf mate love the colour and the wheels, have u taken it around the N?rburgring??? i have a 1.1 as well just put a new engine in just got it run ning sweat!

Mk3 Golf 1.4 small block engine. Also fitted to some Seat's.

abd is the engine code. my 1.3 driver is gf some 1.5s are jb etc.
