1.1 - 1.3?

Hello, im pretty sure there's is a million and one similar topics but here goes.

If the 1.1 and 1.3 are both small block engines, then can the components from a 1.3 just be transferred into the 1.1 block etc?

Also if so, what components would I need?

I have a 1.1 engine sitting around spare and would rather change that than buy a whole new 1.3 engine.

Any help would be much appreciated.

yeah starter, alternator etc are a straight swap as is the gearbox, im not 100% sure about the manifolds but pretty much reckon they'll be dead same

cheers for the help mate, so what exactly are the differences between the 1.1 and 1.3?

I mean, where do the extra cc's come from - different size head/block??

Sorry, im chuffin useless at this sorta stuff and would be nowhere without this forum.

the extra CC comes from differences within the engine, so basically a the 1.3 is just a bored out 1.1 to the best of my knowledge. most of the smaller engined VW's across the range like polos and jettas upto  1.3 use the same mounting points and starter motors etc. Cheaper for Vw to mass produce and easier for us to scavenge bits!

What parts are different or different size?

Ive been offered the head, block and carb from a 1.3. I also have a spare 1.1 engine. Can I transfer all the internal 1.1 parts into the 1.3 block with the 1.3 head and carb to make it a 1.3?

Good job im not confused about now!…not hard in fairness

the 1.3 internals are different to the 1.1 as ther bore is slightly bigger but im not 100% sure what is transferable. cant you get the 1.3 internals also?

turns out the engine will be sold with the internals - dats wat u get for not asking i suppose.

i was quite suprised that if it wouldn't have been. so stuff like starter motor and alternator etc are swapable. think I might make this move soon. or buy a gti.

i think youll find with the early engines the bore difference is very minimal but the crank/rods/pistons are different.

The heads change the compression ratios on the various engine codes but most of the displacement is internals.

There is alot of information about early (8 bolt rocker cover) engines on club polo.
