Seriously
            does any one know the exact dimension of the front brake caliper bleed nipple as fitted to GTI 1983 ? I need milimetre size and length ..to order some new ones .

depends on whether they are the original calipers or replacements as i know that the ones vw now sell have a larger nipple

i just got mine from GFS and they were 90 p each but the guy gave em to me for FREEEEEE!!!


got a problem tho, one of the old ones snapped inside!!!

how do i get it out!

I have that exact same problem too…..I am thinking, it could be drilled out, but you really don't want to risk swarf into the hydraulics.

I have that exact same problem too…..I am thinking, it could be drilled out, but you really don't want to risk swarf into the hydraulics.

You will need to drill it out, but take the caliper off the car and clean it thourghly afterwards. clamp the flexi hose to save having to bleed the hole system.

Please don't cut corners, it the brakes after all 8O

I have more than nipple problems. I am in the middle of complete refurb of the lower rear chassis, suspension and braking system! I think my car will be on axle stands for a month or more at the current rate I'm going at.

If the screw extractors don't work - and I speak from bitter, twisted, rusty bolt stuck in alternator type experience - get hold of a tap of the correct size and thread in case you need to clean shards of bolt from inside the threads in the caliper.

Having said that - in most cases the extractors should do the job.

on a serious note though, i've got some calipers with freely rotating bleed nipples, i've got 2 new nips, should I put copper grease on them when I fit them?.. :dontknow:
