WishBone & Front Set-up

Hi,

On my '91 GTi Cabrio, the front suspension just doesn't 'feel' right.

Rattles and steering feels vague - pretty sure the wheel or running gear need aligning.

Looking at the wishbones, they're original and rusted - so thinking of starting with new wishbones with ball-joints, and tie-rod ends.  Then get it aligned.

Need to obviously check everything whilst under there too struts and springs.  I have the upper Strut Brace and will fit the lower one when doing the wishbones.

Question is, which are the best Wishbones?  GSF, ECP or Original Media-Blasted ones with new bushes from Crazy-Quiffs.  Price wise, they all seem fairly similar.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I just got mine of ebay from Tierod, I think but the original media blasted ones I would have bought but didnt notice them until after I had bought the others.
My new ones are fine and I dont really know what difference there will be but someone with more knowledge might tell you different.

I took mine off, cleaned and painted them, for the price of a tin of hamarite, (plus some small sanding discs for a dremmel thing i have).

I then just bought some replacement bottom ball joints and fitted them.

check your mounting bushes for splitting or wear, replace with polyurethane, much stiffer. also check the anti roll bar mountings, if it used to feel firm but now feels sloppy then theres a chance one of the mounting brackets has failed.
i'll not lie ive spent hundreds firming up my suspension its pointless making one change without doing the others

get under the car with a screw driver and a few sockets/ratchet and look for signs of decay or damage, you say you hear rattling may be the arb has come loose, best thing to go is get inder the car and have a good look rather than just throw money at it.
