Wierd Steering When Wet..

Hello,

since i have had my car i have noticed how terrible it drives when its wet, it almost feels like im driving on a sheet of ice and the tyres do not feel like they are connected to the road at all! ..

Since i have had it lowered it feels alot worse and when i try and turn round tight bends it feels like im all over the place and when turning the steering wheel it doesnt always go where i want it too lol!

Does anyone have any idea as to what it could be?

What tyres have you got on your car?

Have they got the correct tyre pressures in?

When you lowered your car did you get the steering and suspension geometry set up too?

Cheep or worn tyres would be my guess, I've heard that Falken tyres are a really good, affordable tyre that performs well in the wet.

I dont know what tyres they are they are part worns lol, the idiot who did the tyres put the pressure at 40 and it was all over the place but they are at the right pressure now, its still all over the place when wet.

I dont think they did, where can i get that done at any garage?

I would try looking for a specialist VW or performance garage in your area, as I've taken my golf in to Quick fit and places like that before and they won't set the tracking up, as they have all new kit that measures the camber and stuff with lasers.  They told me to look for a place that uses all the old kit, with mirrors I suppose!

Also are your front tyres the same make? As this can sometimes effect how a car drives. (These should be the same make in an ideal world).

you can use laser on mk1s just a fiddle. to get it spot on it takes around 2 hrs depending on wheel size. dont think they like the idea of working!
