WHICH SUSPENSION KIT??? Driving me nuts!!

Hi all, i'm replacing the tired BOGE dampers and GSF springs on my 83 gti.

It's driving me nuts trying to decide which kit to go for!!! :dontknow:

I need COMFORT but improved handling too!! It's my daily driver so 30/40 mm drop is plenty for me!! ( Getting old!)

I'm considering the new budget STR.t kit from KONI or Spax non-adjustable. Did consider the G-MAX but have heard bad reports!!

Any ideas/experiences would be much appreciated, MOT is out soon so getting desperate!! :banghead:

Thanks guys/gals….

Depends on how much you want to spend !!

I have Weitec coilovers on my tin top - rock hard but great fun.

I put a H&R Cup kit on the Mrs cabby, she is really pleased with it from the comfort side and it really is a good compromise to handling.

Cheers,
Ade

Koni shocks and Eibach springs from me .

Very comfortable with sensible suspension bushes [not those rock hard red jobs] and 50+ profile tyres for a bit of cushioning .

Weitec GT/KW V1's will be on my GTI when I get one. HotTunnings for the GLS as I only want to lower it.

One of those?

I have KWV3 on my Porker 951 - superb- so I was amazed at how good the FK Highsport suspension I inherited on my Golf in that its non adjustable (apart from height) but wasnt too skittish and bouncy on rough roads and apart from potentially unsettling the car on rough road bends on what I admit is now a much lightened car are very competent on smoother roads.

I am after handling primarily and cant comment on other systems but I have built a few cars and experinced AVO/Koni etc and tracked cars over the years so have a feel for suspension.

My son had two Mk 1`s and put cheapo coilovers on them and the ride was just awful, far to firm when lowered. I would recommend you look for progressive double springs on any kit.

Seems to me KW/Weitech are the best by all accounts BUT KW is stainless steel (no rust) and has a bypass valve on compression that soaks up big bumps and potholes without upsetting the car or destroying the valving (it also lets you ride the rumble strips   )

Which height eibach springs to you all favour with the Konis ??

I have Koni sports on my campaign with unknown springs, although the car drives fine, they look a little high to me.

From the arch to ground at rear is 63cm (approx25")
   "                        "      at front is 61cm (approx24")

I would be interested in hearing comparable ride heights on the Eibachs,,,cheers.

I have the V-Maxx coilovers on mine, and it is a very good compromise between sport, comfort and economy.
