Which Driveshafts 1.3-1.8 conversion...

When convertign a 1.3 with 4sp (084 ) to 1.8 with 5sp (020)

What needs to be done for the drive shafts?

We have MK2 big block shafts, and the MK1 small block shafts..

GTI ones by the looks of it/1.5-1.8.

Mk2 shafts definately wont fit, they are too long and have different sized joints.

I have gone from a 1.3 4 speed - 1.8 5 speed, using a 1600 GTI 020 and it would seem that the n/s 1.3 driveshaft is a bit too long, as I have a problem with not being able to achieve any kind of negative camber. The o/s however, seems fine.

Anyone else?

Do MK1 GTI have smaller output flanges compared to MK2 output flanges?

Mk2 16v boxes have 100mm output flanges, I think Mk1 and Mk2 GTI's (8v) all have 90mm flanges.

If you wanted to use a Mk2 16v gearbox, you could use Mk1 Cabriolet driveshafts as these have the correct inner 100mm CV's and are the right length.

You could bolt up your 1.3 shafts to the gearbox but like I say, I'm having trouble adjusting the camber on the n/s with this shaft.

Cheers for that bit of info, TT is helping me with my project (so he can learn from my mistakes when he does his own conversion   ).

Looks like I need to get me some cabby driveshafts then!

Your box is an 8V!  So supposedly 90mm flanges..

Looks like we both need MK1 5SP GTI shafts…
