When were BBS aloys offered as an option?

Anyone know when they started offering BBS alloys as an option?
Cheers,

Pete

I don't think they were ever offered as an option on the Mk1, at least not in the UK. I thought they were a standard wheel fitment on the 16V Mk2, which was introduced in 1986. But I am only guessing here…

the only BBS alloys fitted as standard on a mk1 i know of, were the black centred RA`s on a sportline cabrio, although some of the other rims were probably made by BBS anyway!!!

91 Rallye Golf, Tornado Red, AMD tuned to 220bhp 227 flb torque 9j x16 Borbet B alloys

I think 14" BBS RA's were an option on the mk1, as you could have the BBS bodykit fitted from new and most cars that have this kit have 14" RA's

I'm sure when the Tarantula's were introduced in 1992 they were manufactured by BBS?

Actually i think you might be quite right there dude, they might have been an option in 14s on the cabriolet around 1990, they were simmilar/same as G40 polo ones as i had some i bought 2nd hand on my lhasa gti when i first got it, dunno if they actually were offered by vw dealers though?

That's more what I was thinking of, wondered if anyone has any old sales material that would confirm?
The Polo G40 are 5 1/2 13" (same as 9 spokes)

yeah i'm quite sure 14" RA'a were an option and then they increased the size to 15" for the mk2 golf

Link works for me. Anyway copied some content below

BBS wheels were not a factory option for the MK1 according to the sales brochure and price list.

They may have been ordered from the dealer as an aftermarket accessory.

I am pretty sure 13" BBS cross spokes were fitted to the Mk3 Polo G40 as standard, so you could try to get hold of a set from your VW dealer.

the other rims look like Mahle BBS the earlier wheel versions BBS made, that tallied with the small rear light version car displaying the kits and rims puts the actual date of the pictures earlier than the other rims and the brochure

That looks like the BBS brochure to me, not a VW Accessory one. None of the VW Accessory brochures I have even list BBS wheels for the Mk1 hatch, they are mostly ATS.
