Wheel Bearing noise????

Hi, just need some advice for my new cab. I am getting a groaning noise from the rear of my car and I believe it is a wheel bearing. How do I check what side of the car it is coming from as I am unable to tell when driving. The noise stops at 70mph and is its worst at 60mph. Also, if it is the wheel bearing, any tips on how to change a bearing as well please.
Thanks in advance.

jack car up both sides, get hold of the wheels and shake them about (grab tyre and jerk left to right), if there is excessive movement may be your wheel bearing, i would say you could try 'nipping it up' but they dont cost nowt know mate so be as well changing it. (easier with haynes manual) when you know what side it is put summat behind wheels with car in first gear so it cant roll off when u let handbrake off, release handbrake 8O remove them brass cap things with screwdriver etc, remove splitpin (probably best u have spare one to replace as these become brittle after bending) remove lock-cap thingy and undo nut so you can drag drum off. the bearing kit comprises of two inner sheaths and 2 sets of bearings, using a hammer and punch (or owt u can get your hands on) knock inner sheaths out (probably best u clean all old grease out first so you can see em) they dont come out easy, you have to place drum on summat flat and hard.  rememeber where everything came from. clean the drum. put in the new sheaths (outers) i use old bearings that im replacing to hammer em in, then bearings, pack with grease, put nut back on, only slightly tighten it (dont use any brute force) make sure wheel spins with handbrake off then add cover and new split pin.  that took ages…………… buy a haynes manual mate worth weight in gold 8)

Replace BOTH sides - if you replace just one side sod's law dictates that in a short while the other side will need doing……
Check the drums for wear - if in doubt replace - saves bashing the old bearing (and getting VERY annoyed) out too……
….and while you are there check brake shoes……

I must agree with Prowler on this one.. replace both!

I found out the hard way on the weekend where the rear bearing I didn't replace shattered on the motorway at 75Mph!  :banghead: Not fun when the rear of the car snakes all over the show! and I now have to get a new stub axle as well as the bearing

Thanks for your help people, looks like I need to book a weekend off work and get the hammer out, after buying a haynes manual.
Thanks again
