what tire do i put on my 15x7 wheels?

hi guys I am getting some new wheels for my 86 cabby gti but un sure on what size tire is best.

I would like a little stretch as i will be dropping the car abit but I dont want that much stretch that it looks daft.

i was told 165/55/15 but then some one els said 185/45/15   

please advise what i need.

also i was thinking maybe 10-15mm spacers

To achieve the correct rolling radius you ought to be fitting 195/50's but something you'll also have to take into account is the offset of the wheels and the ride height of your car. There will be differing tales from Mk1 owners but I had 7 x 15's with an ET 28 offset and 195 50 15's. They rubbed on the arches so I fitted 45 series tyres and then there was too much 'air' between arch and tyre. So then you're looking at maybe dropping the suspension and fine tuning the look with coilovers.

will a 165/50/15 work on Lenso BSX wheels.
