What Size Wheel Nuts Do I Need

Hello,

I have a 84 Cabrio, and i currently have teardrops on it at the moment. however i have bought a set of ATS Cups and I need a longer wheel nut, can anyone advise how long I will need… I do believe they are M12's?

and does any one know where I can get them… eBay seems the cheapest at the moment. Roughly ?20 for a full set!

Cheers Pete

Hello pete

i have ats cups on my car and i used the original vw wheel studs
the length is good no problem and the taper of the collar is a match

they are m12

i'm not sure on this maybe someone else would know for sure
you have to get something like 7 or 8 full turns before your wheel studs tighten up

be carefull that there not to long as when you put your rear wheels on the studs can go to far into the drum and touch the brake shoes and other bits

newer VAG bolts for alloys are longer, but with the ATS wheels you probably need a different bolt seating anyway.
VAG bolts have a round seat and most aftermarket wheels use a tapered seat.  Squidge a ball of blue tac down a bolt hole to confirm.
If you do need tapered bolts get a set of BMW wheel bolts from ebay/scrappy, they all use a taperd seat and are a few mm longer than VAG bolts :)

ok cool, the later VAG bolts have a thread length of 23.5, so if you measure yours and its less then a set of late vag 4 stud bolts is what ya want :)
