what is the best coiloiver or suspension set up ?!

Ok guys this subject has probebly been done before but after doing loads of reseach on which setup and make etc suspension to go for i am still bloody confused as to which make and model coilovers to go for??? Im thinking of spending around £1000 or less on suspension set up as to me the way the car handles is wayyyy more important than looks etc. so any feed back on setups that you liked/disliked etc etc that would be tidy.. cheers in advance. oz

Leda were always well respected, I think they've stopped trading now though?

There's probably a bunch of more mainstream makers which do fully adjustable (bump and rebound control) damper coilovers. Not sure if anyone does separate reservoirs, or if they're actually needed or a bit of overkill.

There's KW Variant 3, probably out your budget tho.

thanks paul, i will check leda out , has anyone had any hands on experience with the kw v3's? they seem quite pricey but the kw seem to have a very good name for themselves? how about the gaz or bilstein numbers? thanks again.

I had KWV3 on my Porsche 944 Turbo.

Quite simply they are superb as they are three way adjustable, made of stainless steel so dont rust and IMPORTANTLY have a bypass valve that allows you to survive potholes without wrecking the internal valves BUT to get the most from any suspension you should consider first upgrading or renewing the rubbers/mounts, second upgrading the ARB`s, and third upgrading the dampers/springs.

There is no point whatsoever in paying loads for KW if the car isnt set up first to appreciate their benefits as the stiffer ARB`s allow them to work properly. Once done and fitted to a car with all the relevant aspects sorted out they are truly awesome.

Note that if you dont want to play with bump and rebound then dont bother with V3 or get them set professionally and leave them alone! Also once set, dont raise or lower without resetting the steering geometry or you will have great dampers etc on a misaligned car.

As an alternative my son Jonathan reckons his old Mk 1 was superb on AP (he also sugggests to me that Wietech [spelling??] own them) and they are almost the same which I may go for as they are (I am told) a good halfway house. I have FK at the moment and it is a bit soft and not well damped and the back dampers have failed and are leaking (not uncommon I hear) however given a bit of cash I would without hesitation go for KW and uprated suspension parts and ARB`s.

That is excellent ! just what i was after!!. I have upgraded all the rubbers to superflex and got a set of h&r arb's but im not sure how thick they are? would you say the thicker the bars the better or is there a happy medium? I have been looking around for prices on the k3's and the cheapest i have found them is £1050 which i dont think is that bad.then i will take the car along and get them set up properly , not sure once i have all the arbs, rubbers, top struts and v3's on the car weather it will be worth it to get the car corner balanced?? thanks again!!
