what gearbox

hi just finished my cabby im running a 16v 9a with the standard 1.8 gti gearbox its got 15" rims
went out for a spin took the satnav with me and at 60mph shes doing 3200revs is there a better gearbox thats not so low geared cheers

Standard GTI is geared at about 20mph per 1000 rpm so 60 at 3200 about matches that. A gearbox from a MK2 1.6/1.8 carb is about 24/25mph per 1000rpm but that will make the power appear to be about 20-25% less. I guess you went 16v (2.0L ?) for more power, higher gearing will just negate that increase and put you back were you started :dontknow:

thanks for that power is not a problem plenty of it just looking for a better cruising speed has the diesel gearbox got different ratio's
