What do I need for 256mm brake upgrade? Please help :(
I want to upgrade the brakes on my clipper, Wanted to go for the VAG 256mm set up… but can anyone tell me which parts i need exactly.
http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49623 I have read this and its confused the poop out of me.
The guy at the top says "Mk2 Golf Calipers will not work for this conversion due to the spacing of the bolts, only the discs and pads from a >88 Mk2 Golf 16v (along with the Audi's and the Scirocco mentioned) will work."
A guy below him says "The parts you will need are : 256mm discs in the four stud pattern, Late MK2 golf 16v lends itself to this
Calipers from a Late MK2 16v and you might as well get some decent pads while your here, choice is yours but i have run pagid and found them to be fine. "
So which calipers do i need? MK2 or Audi 80 (Audi 90, Scirocco 16V) ??
I thought I needed to get calipers and carriers from an Audi 80, then discs and pads from a mk2 16V … am i right in thinking this?
Wanted to get this done asap because i have had a few brown trouser moments recently.
Thanks a bunch,
Mus

But u will need longer bolts to bolt carrier on and a bit of tubing on the bolt cos the vx carriers hav a slight bigger hole diameter ,
But all in all I am pleased with it all for £105 that was for everything , and easy to do !!

I have Goodridge brake hoses connected to my calipers at the moment. Will they still screw into the back of the Vauxhall set up?

VX calipers use banjo type , so nomu-star-fa said
Thanks for the advice guys, think there is any difference in braking performance between the VAG setup and Vauxhall setup. Parts for the Vauxhall set up would be much easier to get a hold of.

No I did not sleeve, reson was I was replacing everything on the front so I had the holes on the hub drilled and re tapped, got it done at work and used bigger bolts,mu-star-fa said
Amateur moment! Found them for 50 odd quid… It's ashame though because the 2 rear ones aren't going to be used at all! Did u use the sleeve for the bolts or get the 12mm ones?

get calipers from either the same car as the carriers or mk2 16v, or pretty much any VAG car with vented 256mm brakes will do. They're pretty much all the same basic shape, even later polo gti ones fit though they use banjo brake lines

They come with the larger spaced carriers but you can get adaptors plates so they will fit fine.
Let me know if interested.
