What can I fit from mk4 gti?

I have a 1982 Golf C 1.1l and I'm thinking of fitting a 1.8t from a Mk4. I know the engine and transmission should fit (changing some engine mounts), but can I use the driveshafts and even suspension/brake discs as well? Could I even fit the back axle as well? The Mk4 is wider right? So I could just fit the whole brake system from the Mk4?

What do I need to change out and what do I need to adapt?

Also, I have a 4speed box in the car, what do I need to do to fit the 5speed? How do I connect the stick to the new box? Do I need a new stick?

I'm VERY new to this and finding info on this here in Iceland is not very easy… :banghead:

i dont believe any off the mk4 suspension system will work, i have never heard of anyone using mk4 golf front brakes either, but it is possible to use the rear calipers but these need to be paired with mk2 carriers i believe,

for front brakes you could go for 280mm g60 brakes
or get some racing calipers e.g wilwood

you will need to scrap the 4 speed gear linkage and if you are using 1.8t i think you will need the cable shifter from your donor vehicle

nope nothing except the engine will fit without significant modification. the gearbox goes on with custom mounts. gearstick and cables will go with some tweaks to the shell.

track is way wider on the mk4 so shafts no good, front brakes wont go without a lot of effort, far easier to do the vauxhaull brake mod. rear calipers will go on with mk2/3 carriers and custom flexi lines, but make sure you install a bias valve

Ok, so if I fit the mk4 Gti engine, what gearbox can i ft without significant mods? Can I then re-use my 1.1l drive shafts?

020 box using mk1 1.5-1.8 manual linkage, but it will die quickly. mk4 1.8t box or an earlier 02a gearbox with the correct cable shifter using bought/made conversion mounts.

either way your old shafts wont work, you'll need mk1 gti if box has 90mm flanges, or late cab/rocco 100mm shafts if it has 100mm flanges
